Whether you’re an AYC power boater or sailor, have you ever wondered how sailboat racing works, or what Race Week Anacortes is all about? Join us for a fun evening Friday, February 9 at 6 pm with Race Week Producer (and fellow AYC Member) Schelleen Rathkopf, who will present sailboat racing 101, and Race Week’s nearly 4-decade history in the Pacific Northwest! Schelleen has been involved with Race Week for 25 years now, as a racer herself, on the race committee, and for the past 10 years as the event producer. She is a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Seattle and the Anacortes Yacht Club, and was also previous Editor of Northwest Yachting magazine, and previous producer of the Boats Afloat Show on Lake Union in Seattle. Schellen grew up in a power boating family in Seattle and has a long history of adventuring in the San Juan Islands whether on a power boat, sailboat, or kayak. Join us for a fun night that showcases the waterways nearest to AYC from a sailboat racer perspective and walk away with an even greater appreciation for this place you call home!
